It has a very crystal like structure to it. On a smaller scale, this might actually a pretty cool texture to certain objects or creatures. I could picture this as a really Dragon scale style.

They would look pretty different form typical scales. It has a nice overlap feel to it as well so I think that's i see scales with it.
